Successful businesses improve the human condition. UTC supports a broad range of community activities and focuses efforts on math and science education, the environment and the arts and culture. In addition, we encourage employees to be involved in their communities and support and celebrate these activities through our matching gift program.

Doing good where we live and work
UTC supports the communities where our employees live and work and we encourage and celebrate our employees' active roles in these communities. In 2008, UTC made contributions to non-profit organizations in 39 countries. Highlights of our top programs are noted below:
UTC has a rich history of philanthropy, dating to the mid-1970s when United Aircraft acquired Carrier Corporation and Otis Elevator Company and became United Technologies. Early philanthropy focused on our home state of Connecticut and on funding the arts nationally and internationally. We’ve always had a robust employee volunteer program, which provides employees the opportunity share their time with local non-profit organizations.
In the intervening years, our philanthropy evolved to encompass arts and culture, math and science education, and the environment. It also has become broader and more global in scope. Our volunteerism has grown as well, with employees in the United States donating more than 70,000 hours last year.
For four years, UTC has sought independent feedback on our corporate responsibility reporting. We actively seek input from our stakeholders and we use the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes social dimension score as our benchmark for measuring our community performance.
